pin screw and pin barrel

Windsor Feedscrews Inc.

Pin Screw and Barrel

The increase in demand for screw and barrel extruders to not only convey the materials to the die but to also mix it -  has led to certain modifications in screw and barrel design with the primary goal of the design is to advance homogenization of the mix.

One method to achieve this is the use of pins in the barrel to divert and divide the flow of material and the use a cavity transfer mixer, which has hemispherical cavities in the screw and barrel to promote the exchange of material. The resulting diversion and reorientation of the flow stream improves the blending efficiency of the extruder.
